Summer Card Camp 2011

I was lucky enough to win a spot in Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Warner's Summer Card Camp from Shari's blog.  It's a month long camp full off wonderful inspiration.   Our first week's inspirational colours are Purple, Pink, Orange, Sky Blue and White....  I am so pleased to be able to join this camp as it's all about colours, something I struggle with, so I'm hoping for some good inspiration.  I really find it hard to combine colours but here's my first card for the week
Butterfly fun

I started by using some orange card to punch out a lacy border.  Then I took some sky blue card and stamped the flourish background in blue and purple distress inks.  I then distressed around the edge with the blue and purple.  I had some pre-coloured butterflies in my stash ~ conveniently in pink, purple and orange.  I just had to add the sentiment to finish the card.

I did have lots of fun, trying to think what I would do... did lots of doodling and sketching so have lots of ideas.

Got the new car this afternoon.... it is FABULOUS.  What a wonderful smell of new car leather.  Can't wait for the weekend so we can take it out for a blat.... and I can get some good photo of it to share....  Can you tell I'm a bit excited!!!l

Have a good week... I'm off to check out Day 2 of the camp...

Cheers

CR84FN Colour Challenge

Over at CR84FN there is a wonderful colour challenge....

These are not colours I usually use, but this evening a few things all came together...

CR84FN Colour challenge.
I had made a the frame last week and then had a mind block and didn't know how to finish it, then I was trying out a new die I bought today and used a piece of yellow PP to cut it out.  Then I saw this challenge and it all just came together.   I used a Penny Black sentiment to draw it all together.

I had a great 3 hours out at SENZ today.  Lots and lots of wonderful things.  Did a couple of make and takes, watched a couple of demos and bought a few things... not much really... the big butterfly die, a Tatty Teddy stamp by Docraft and a couple of magazines, some die cut flowers.  There was so many beautiful papers and stamps I really wasn't sure what I wanted.

Hoping every one has a great week...

Cheers

Simple Frame Collage.

Today has been very busy.... getting the cleaners in to clean the stain on the carpet, off to the car dealership to sign up for a new car, doing the grocery shopping, home to do the housework... and finally some time to stamp.

First I'll tell you about the car we are buying.... Hubby currently has a Nissan Maxima that we bought from new in Sept 2002... yes~ nearly 9 years ago... so he thought it was time to upgrade.  He went to the dealership on Thursday as they were having a HUGE sale.. and they did come up with a great deal... So he decided that he wanted one in Amethyst Grey.  It had to be ordered in.  Today we went to sign up and had a look at it...it has arrived, but needs to be valeted, and have the paint protection added so it will be Tues or Wed before we pick it up... Very exciting... nothing so nice as the smell of new leather in a new car.  Can't wait.

And on the stain front... the cleaner was amazing and has managed to remove all of the stain. A big sigh of relief from me!  He did such a good job I'm going to get him back to clean the whole of the downstairs carpets.

Now for my Frame cards..  I started by inking up the Simple Frame stamp with Brushed Corduroy and stamped it twice.
Heartfelt wishes

For my first card I masked the frame and then used some distress inks to colour the background.  My inspiration for this was the wonderful backgrounds produced by Jill Foster   She does amazing backgrounds with distress inks and uses water splotches a lot.  My colours are more muted than she uses.  I then stamped the Hero Arts Antique Background in Wild Honey ink.  I stamped it again on some scrap card and used my aqua brush to colour in the Butterfly and Dragonfly and cut them out and added to the card for dimension.  I layered the panel onto some orangey card that I had stamped the Envelope pattern onto.  Added a sentiment in the Brushed Corduroy to finish.

Timely Bird

My second card using the frame used similar techniques.  I masked around the frame and used the Envelope Pattern as well.  This time I used Hero Arts Timely Bird Collage.  I stamped it again to get the bird to 3-D.  I painted the background bird and flower with some distress inks mixed with Iridescent Medium.  I trimmed the panel and distressed with Tea Dye ink and layered onto dark brown and then onto the cream card base.  I had made a few crochet flowers sitting watching "Country Calendar" after dinner this evening, so used one on the corner of the card with a button I made with my new molds from Mold Muse ( here)

Well it's now time to hit the sack.  Hubby went off about 20 mins ago but I was still wanting to finish this post.

Enjoy your weekend all

Cheers

Wedding wishes to Aimee and Callum

Friends of my daughter are getting married today in Perth... A big congratulations to Aimee and Callum.   I've made a card for them.... it's winging it's way to Perth just now.

Congatulations Aimee and Callum

I used the Penny Black stamp set " J'aime Paris" and stamped the lovely couple onto white card that I had embossed with a folder.  I used watercolour pencils to add a soft touch of colour.  I then added pearls for the bouquet and buttonhole.  The corner flourishes are from Inkadinkadoo and the sentiment was in a freebie set in a magazine.   I hope the day went well for them.

I didn't tell you about our little mishap on Saturday night.... we had a very enjoyable evening with our Family Group sharing a lovely Mid Winter Christmas dinner..... but unfortunately a full glass of red wine got spilt over our dinning room carpet.... yeap... a FULL glass... we managed to wipe the walls and under the breakfast bar and tipped copious quantities of table salt over the stain.... but to no avail.  Well some but not all was sopped up.  Now there is still a very bad stain.  The cleaners are coming in to try and clean it tomorrow.  After that.... well that's still to be seen.  Just an added expense....

Good weekend planned.... hope to visit SENZ  It is New Zealand's biggest Scrapbook and card making Expo.  I hope to get out to the Telstra Stadium on Sunday.  It's about 40 kms from home ~ right over the other side of the city to me.... There's always lots of goodies with 30 stall holders and lots of make'n'takes as well as classes.  Most of the classes are full now so I'll be just a shopper!!!!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Birds and Flowers

I was lucky enough to win some stamps over at Joy's blog and one of them was "Flower Bird Garden".  I had to make a condolence card this weekend as a friend lost her father.... and I wanted some thing that sort of said, " I'm sorry" but wasn't to dreary.  So pulled out the new stamp and some new embossing powders

Condolence Card

This embossing powder is by Stampendous and is called Pomegranate.  It really looks stunning.  I coloured the birds and flowers with distress ink.  The ribbon is a bit that was wrapped around some flowers I got for my birthday.

I'm feeling a bit peeved today as I am having issues with my medical insurer about getting pre-approval for my back operation.  For some reason, they think the procedure is something new and it needs to go through their new procedure area... which is crazy as my surgeon has been doing this for over 2 years and on their customers as well.... now they want a letter from him.... Now it looks like I've missed July dates for surgery and if they do approve, it might now be August before I can have it.... So continuing back and leg pain for some time to come.

That's me for the night.... hope all is going well in your place in the world.

Pesky Critters

This week's challenge over at Penny Black Saturday is for their 3rd birthday and is called "Pesky Critters".  Penny Black have the most incredible critter stamps... hedgehogs, cats, puppies, cows, mice.. all so cute.  I have a few but one of my favourites is this one
So I decided to make my card for the challenge with it... Looking at some of the other entries, I realise I really do like my cards clean and graphic.. not too over done.
Pesky Critters

I coloured my stamping with aqua crayons and added a some stickles to the flower centres.  I added some patterned papers and a ribbon and then some yellow gems.

As this is a favourite PB stamp I am also entering into Penny Black at Allsorts monthly challenge.

Thanks for visiting and I appreciate all your lovely comments.

The last of last weekends cards....

Just sharing the last couple of cards I made last weekend and the 90 min scramble that I was one hour late for... misread the time converter and got up at 7.00am to stamp and it should have been 6.00am.  Still had an lovely mornings stamping in my PJ's.

First up is a sweet little Penny Black card..
Balloon Birthday
Made with a work colleague in mind.... Nicola LOVES pink...I had coloured the image in during the long weekend prior and it was just a matter of putting it all together.

Next another Penny Black image...
PB Male card Challenge.
One for the boys here.... this little dog is super cute and was such fun to colour.  Added some Glossay Accents to highlight.  Thought the My Favorite Things sentiment was perfect for a guy's card.

And now my little scraplings.

90 min Scramble - Yellow scrapling

90 min Scramble - sentiment

Fun to do but was disappointed I missed the deadline.

Well that's it for today.... I'm off to start dinner.... heaps of left overs from last night's dinner party ~ going to make a Cottage Pie with the left over lamb roast and use the left over roast vegies for the topping... Yummy

Have a great rest of the weekend

Lucy's Lovely Lines over at the Lily Pad.

Over at Lily Pad Cards this week, Lucy's lovely lines sketch is this:

As soon as I saw it I had a card in mind.... but what I produced was NOTHING like that!!!!!!!!! Here's my interpretation

Lucy's Lines at the Lily Pad

Not sure what happened.  The Simple Frame and the vines were there but not the colour scheme or the sentiment... I started with some watercoloured paper I'd made that was greeny.  Stamped the frame with Shabby Shutters, masked and added the vine in Crushed Olive and Pumice Stone.  Thought it needed some texture so used the French script in the Shabby Shutters.   Cut it out and distressed round the edges. stamped the ticket onto a scrap of the watercolour paper and matted it with some darker green and then using some twine added it to the panel.  I took the lighter green card stock and stamped the Script in Peeled Paint and then mounted the panel with dimensional dots.  Added a few gems and it all just came together.  As I did use a pit of watercolour painting~ used the Shabby Shutters to fill the bits of the leaves that I missed stamping, I am also entering this into the Hero Arts monthly challenge.      and Wee Memories two week challenge

Now just a quick peek at what was bursting out this morning....
bursting out
Here it is middle of the year and winter time and this little beauty was bursting out.  The chrysalis was on my outside washing airer and had been there for an age... so long, I thought it had died.... but no just waiting for some sun to shine on it.  After a dreadful day yesterday some early morning sun arrived... ( on and off all day now)

Thanks for looking... have a great weekend

Papercrafts Gallery Idol

This year PaperCrafts Gallery Idol is open to all.... anyone can audition for the Gallery Idol 2011.  Just make a congratulations card and post it in the Flickr gallery ( here)

I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring this year..... and have made two cards
First up.... classic black and white
Paper Crafts Gallery IdolĀ  2011 - Congrats card

Used my Cuttlebug embossing folder ~ Textile, some Spellbinders circles, scallops and tags.  Finished with a classic Congratulations stamp from Hero Arts.

Second card used stamps from Hero Arts and Darkroom Door.
Congratulations

I stamped up the Hero Arts Luscious Ledger I won on Joy's blog... with some Brushed Corduroy distress ink and stamped it onto some card I had distressed with Scattered Straw and Milled Lavender inks.  I then distressed another piece of card and stamped the Darkroom Door stamp.  Both were matted with Mulled Wine card stock and added to the white base card.  Added ribbon and gems to finish off.

I certainly don't expect to get through to the top 20 - I mean, look at all the stunning cards in the gallery ~ but I gave it a go and enjoyed the trying.

Don't expect to get too much stamping done this weekend ( but you never know!) as I have to give the place a through cleaning... as we are hosting our Family Group Mid Winter Christmas Pot Luck dinner here tomorrow night.  About 8 people plus ourselves... and the weather has certainly turned to winter today with the wild forecast for tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by...

Happy Birthday to Me....

Yes... today is my birthday.... I like having a birthday in the middle of June.... right smack in the middle of the year.... 6 months since Christmas, 6 months to go.... Even though it is in winter time, I still enjoy sharing my happy day with family and friends...  Over the years I have had some memorable days.  My 15th birthday was interesting... I had invited 4 friends over for a sleepover.  We lived way out in the country on a farm (in Otago) at the time and it was a bit inclement weather so in the end only one friend came.  It was just starting to snow lightly when we picked her up around 7.30pm.... well come morning there was 6 foot of snow and we couldn't get out for 4 days...  For my 28th birthday ( which was 7 weeks after our first baby was stillborn) my darling hubby had organised a surprise dinner for me.... but at rugby on the day of the dinner he broke his jaw and we ended up at the Emergency dept of the hospital.  I was still in my causal clothes on the way home and he stopped at the restaurant... and there were all our friends all dressed up....  And a few years ago to celebrate being 50 and having been married for 30 years he organised a party ~ albeit 9 months after the 50th!!!!!!

This year we had a lovely family dinner on Sunday night and tonight my wonderful friends, Yvonne and Michael, have invited us around to their place for a meal. And I've just spoken with my daughter too.

Here's a selection of the birthday cards I received.  Thank you everyone.
Top row:  Susan, Emma, Sandie, Helen
Bottom row: Mum & Dad, Glenda, Vicky
All beautifully handmade.  I really appreciate them. Each one is so special.

Hope you have all had a great day... I have...
Take care

Playing with new stamps....

On Friday I went to Dunkley's Great New Zealand Craft Fair... because no less than 6 stamping and scrapbooking stalls were there.... as well as lots of other stalls... I got some Spicy seeds, some yummy boysenberry fudge and of course some new stamps.... from Rubbadubbadoo and a Tim Holtz one as well as a set of Sizzex embossing folders....

The Rubbadubbadoo stamp set is called Seaside.  I made this lovely card on Saturday for Lily Pad Cards latest challenge ~ to use ribbon.

Sea Shore

I used distress inks on the base card and then stamped the small set of shells over and over to form a patterned background.  On another piece of card, I did more distressing and then stamped the larger panel from the set.  I used some Distress ink to add extra colour to the shells.  Added the ribbon and the bow with some ric-rac.

I did manage a few more cards on my day's stamping on Saturday...  my flickr photostream has them all there, I'll be sharing them here over the next few days..

Inspired by Jacqueline and Susan

At Stamping group yesterday I had inspiration from two of my favouritest people... the lovely Susan (who I am happy to say lives very close to me).... and Jacqueline (who lives a long way away but inspires me with her beautiful soft and pretty cards and tags)

Starting with Susan... one rather special lady... she makes very beautiful and intricate cards that often have hand stitching on them ~ something that is not easy for her to do.... I love the way she makes them.  She has taught me how to make beautiful watercoloured backgrounds as well... But yesterday I was inspired to try some sewing on some pretty patterned paper.  I did the sewing at home and took the piece to group, to pick her brains on how to complete the card....
InspiredĀ  by Susan

The purple butterfly and the brad in my crochet flower were her suggestions... and yes Sue, they did work!  I haven't put a sentiment on it yet... may wait till I use the card to do so...

Now on to Jacqueline.... another very special and courageous lady currently suffering some health issues... I have oft admired the cards and tags Jacqueline makes... I am the lucky owner of one or two.  Anyway of late, Jacqueline has been using a Hero Arts Frame stamp to perfection.  I bought the stamp and then was a bit daunted to use it as I felt my work would not be up to the wonderful standard of hers.  However this week I jumped right in and used it... first on my little owl card (here) and then these two cards...
Orange Frame

Inspired by Jacqueline

Both use other Hero Arts Stamps and Distress Inks.  The orange one also as a Rubbadubbadoo stamp along the bottom. The background paper for the second one was made with Pearlescent water colours paints that I used following Sue's instructions.  Looks really stunning for real.  I finally felt these came up to standard and I feel more confident using the stamp now.  Thank you to both of these ladies for their inspiring work.

I have entered these into Virginia's  Stamp your Hero HeArt out challenge.

And a big thanks to my lovely readers.... I do appreciate that someone out there visits and leaves me comments...

Have a great week... I will be!!!!  Something special happening on Tuesday....

Take care

Owl thank you!

I got an early birthday pressie this week.... from my niece in Australia.... a lovely set of Kaisercraft stamps and a Kaisercraft little Owl.... it is just the cutest owl you have ever seen.... I decided to team it up with a Hero Arts Frame.  I got this Frame stamp 3 weeks ago but have been a bit daunted to use it after seeing all the stunning cards made by Jacqueline and Lin... how could I compare myself to these amazing ladies... Anyway gave it a go....
Owl Thanks

I stamped the frame and masked around it.... then stamped the owl and masked her too.  I then stamped the envelope pattern on the background, moving the stamp round a bit to get more texture.  The branch was stamped with Shabby Shutters and a bit of Aged Mahogany added for colour.  I then coloured the owl in and added some Glossy Accents to bits to highlight...  I then took a pale lavender card and stamped the envelope pattern in Milled Lavender and stamped the frame on it.  I then trimmed the owl panel and layered it on top.

So now I've started using the frame... I'm feeling a bit more confident.  In fact, at Stamp Group today I made two more cards.... very much inspired by Jacqueline's lovely soft work... but as I didn't get home till 6.30pm I still have to take photos.

My little owl stamp was very popular today at Group.... A couple of the ladies stamped her off so she will be gracing a few cards in the near future.

Well it's getting a bit late and I still have a few things to do before bed, especially if I decided to get up at 7.00am to join in the Hero Arts Flickr 90 min scramble.

Cheers

Baby Frame.

My friend, Kathy, recently became a Grandma...for the first time... so is very excited.  But her daughter lives in London so she has to make do with photos and Skype to see her little granddaughter, Rio.  So I decided to make a frame to sit on her desk so she can have a photo close by...

Now this is the first time I have tried anything like this.... and as a result of this experience, there are things I would do differently.... but meanwhile here it is....
Baby Frame

It started life as a vivid pink frame that I painted over with Gesso and then white acrylic paint.  Added some stamps by Fiskars which I coloured with Copics ( yes this worked) and watercolour makers ( this didn't!)  Also the stamping was done with Memento but should have heat set it as some of it ran.... Oh well, still learning....  and Kathy adored it.  That's Rio's photo.... I broke the glass trying to put it back in so had to use some acetate which has caused a reflection in the photo... looks better for real.

Did some shopping at the Craft Fair today... some Sizzex embossing folders, A Tim Holtz little stamp and another couple of stamps from Rubberdubbado ~ one a sea scene and one some trees... plus fudge, licorice and some yummy spicy dried seeds...pumpkin, sesame and pinenuts all mixed together.

Have a great weekend.... I've got Stamp Group...so that will be a fun day and then on Sunday evening hubby and I and our son and his girlfriend are out to dinner to celebrate my birthday which is next week.... I'll miss not having my daughter there.... spend about half an hour on Skype with her tonight...

Oddles of Doodles

This weeks challenge at Penny Black Saturday Challenge is to Doodle on your card.... I have been building up my Penny Black stamps lately and I took a couple of sets away with me over the weekend.  I stamped up a little Mimi stamp and did some paper piecing and colouring.  She was sitting on my desk just waiting to be put together.... and the idea of doodling sounded like fun.

Doodling with Penny Black Saturday

I doodled around the edge of the image and doodled some grass around Mimi.  I used a Stampin' Up! sentiment and doodled round that as well....

I thought I would quickly share the card I made for my teenage niece last month.
Birthday cake

Another lovely Penny Black stamp I won ages and ages ago but had never inked up... Perfect for a teenager.  Two nieces had birthdays on the 28th and 29th... 7 years apart.   One turned 22 and the other one 15.   This card was for the 15 yr old, Sasha.   I am just waiting to hear when the older one, Debbie has her baby... she is overdue at the moment.

Had an exciting moment yesterday when reading Wee Memories blog... I made the Honorabe Hoots .... for this card.... thanks Jenny and the Wee Memories team.

Thanks for visiting....

What a difference a day makes.....

Last post showed some photos of the horrible weather we had on Saturday.... well Sunday we woke to no wind and lots of sunshine.....
the water tanks are what I was trying to photograph on Saturday but couldn't see for the rain.   And here is what hubby was helping out with
planting a Feijoa hedge between our friends house and the neighbours.  The day was a stunner.... over 21 degrees C at lunch time.  So warm in fact that Peter, Michael and Yvonne went to the beach for a swim.... I stayed at home so they didn't need to close the house up!!!!   In the afternoon the guys finished off the deck out the front... getting sunburnt noses in the process....   Talk about extremes of weather....

A very fun and relaxing weekend ... including letting my friend's daughter (aged 35) have a play with my limited supplies... Sarah made 2 cards and really enjoyed herself.   Did some colouring in with Copics and watercolour pencils.

Back to work today but luckily only a short week.... and a planned visit to Dunkley's Craft Fair at lunch time Friday to look forward to.

Take care

Sunshine on a Rainy Saturday...

Our weather is shocking so far this weekend.  We are up North at our friend's bach ( Holiday Home) and it has been a wet and windy day.... I brought my laptop and some limited crafting supplies and this morning made a little bit of sunshine on a rainy day....
Card Kit fun

Included in my limited supplies was a couple of kits I purchased ages and ages ago.  They are packs with various papers, stickers, embellishments and card in different colours.  This card came from the Yellow kit.  The Sunflower is a PSX sticker.  The Happy Birthday was embossed onto vellum and the rest was all part of the kit.  I cut the papers to size- used a gold calligraphy pen to edge the white card.  I used my Tim Holtz ruler to make the holes around the yellow paper.   All came together nicely.  This weeks challenge over at Wee Memories is Anything goes... so I'm entering this one.

I also managed a couple more cards.... this one from the Brown Kit
Penny Black Paper

and had a play with colouring using Hero Arts Peeking Posies..
Peeking Posies

I I used Copics, watercolour pencils, gel pens and a glaze pen.   The sentiment is from a Penny Black set

Here's what the weather's like

a great day to stay inside and read and craft... ( and check out a few blogs! thanks to Michael and his 3G internet card)

Here's hoping the rest of the weekend is better.

Inspired by Pinterest...

This weeks challenge over at Wee Memories is to be inspired by something you have seen over at Pinterest or Esty.  Well, I'd never visited Pinterest before so had a look....wow so much to be inspired by...
This caught my eye

And inspired this card....

WMC58

I used a Design Block background from Hero Arts ( Wavy Leaf Pattern) and embossed it with white EP.  Sponged on Stormy Sky and Faded Jeans Distress ink.  Added the ribbon, a sentiment and the little crochet flower ( made by me) and the rose (also made by me)

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.... I may not be round blogosphere much as we are heading off to the beach tomorrow afternoon.  I am taking the laptop but probably won't get much time on it.... Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the next on my reading list... (just finished HP &The Goblet of Fire)

Recycle, Re-use, Re-purpose......

This month over at Die Cut Diva's, Arlene has devised a cool challenge... to recycle, re-use or re-purpose.... I decided to combine this challenge with Penny Black's ~ frame challenge.
I started with this....
Torn cardboard envelope

a piece of cardboard envelope all the way from Hong Kong ( it kindly brought a couple of card from Vivi) and I turned it into the frame on this card
Kisses from Mimi

I sponged the Fleur de Lis frame with Brushed Corduroy distress and then painted with Iridescence Medium.  The used a Spellbinders die to make the panel with Mimi on it.  I stamped her and sponged the blue before removing the die.  I used Copics to colour her face and watercolour pencils for the rest.  Thanks to a tip from Kathy I added black enamel accents for her eyes.  I made the card 4 x 4 so it is a smaller than usual card but suited the frame.   I debated putting some more embellishment ~ maybe a little flower or some gems... but left it in the end....

Thanks for looking.   Nearly the weekend... well 2 days to go... and it's a long one here in NZ- celebrating the Queen's Birthday.  We are off the the bach with Michael and Yvonne... a relaxing time in store!

Cheers
