De-stressing colouring.

Hi there.   I'm here today to share a card I made over the weekend.   At last weekend's craft fair I picked up an Altenew Foil stamp at 30% off (Delightful Flowers) and then ordered the matching stencil from my local online shop - Krafter's Cart.  It arrived this week.  And on Friday afternoon I showed my Dad how I hot foiled it.   It's was our long weekend for Labour Day and my Dad and his partner came up from Wellington to visit....

So why did I say that this was sharing a card I made to de-stress?  Well on Friday overnight, Dad's partner Ngaire tumbled down the stairs in the middle of the night.  She got up to go to the bathroom and got a bit disorientated in a strange house and tumbled down 6 steps to the landing... She said she was okay - bruised and her neck was sore and went back to bed.   At 6.00am Dad came down and said she was having trouble swallowing and best that we head to the Emergency Dept.. Things got critical as Ngaire had burst a blood vessel and it had a huge hematoma pushing against the windpipe.  She ended up having an emergency tracheotomy and during that had a cardiac arrest..  And had to be transferred to the Auckland Hospital (a much bigger one) By this time things were getting critical so we rang her children who live in Wellington.  Her son and daughter arranged a flight for the afternoon.   Dad and I drove up over to Auckland Hospital.  Ngaire went straight to theatre where two lots of action took place - that was about 2.00pm.  Her children arrived around 5.00 and we finally got to see her in the Critical Care Unit around 5.20.  She was still fully sedated with a tracheotomy done.   Hubby and I took Dad home as he was shattered (as way I).  I let my car for Mark and Melinda to come back to my place.  They got home around midnight. -Sunday morning Ngaire had been weaned off the sedation and was responsive.  She is still in a serious condition - and today she has improved even more.  She can write notes - can't talk due to the traceotomy.  And before Dad, Mark and Melinda went back after dinner - she's been moved to the Trauma ward.   So it's been a hard few days.    So yesterday I de-stressed by colouring the foiled piece I did.

I have used the colours from Altenew's October Challenge

Back to work tomorrow for me.  Can't say it's been a good long weekend.   Now I have a houseful of people - tonight Mark and Melinda made tea as a thank you for putting them up.  Not sure how long it will be as hopefully Ngaire will eventually be able to transfer to Wellington Hospital. I have to say that all the doctors and nurses at both Hospitals have been amazing.  When things went pear shaped everyone swung into action.

Well, thanks for letting me share.

OMG - what a horrible accident, Dawn! Praying for Ngaire & her speedy recovery & your poor dad!! One of my chorus friends was visiting her daughter and fell in the shower - broke her neck! Luckily, no paralysis - just months of therapy & a neck brace. Those things can happen so quickly - sorry it happened during your previously lovely weekend!!

Love your beautiful foiled card - gorgeous colors with the stencil and splatters. Take care of yourself too - hugs!!

Oh my gosh....I can't believe the trauma that you and your Dad went through, Dawn. I am sorry to hear Ngaire's freak accident that nearly took her life. Thankfully, the docs and staff were able to do these emergency surgeries. I truly hope that Ngaire is on the mend and will recover well from this. Falling accidents (for seniors and elderly, especially) are no joke and can not to be ignored. I, too, had a fall on my face two weeks ago and thankfully, I had not broken anything (just a bad bruise on my face). I am glad that you found therapy in coloring which must have been so soothing. Please keep us posted about Ngaire's condition. Take good care, my friend!
