Interactive birthday card with pop up surprise

 Last Friday was my son-in-law’s 40^th birthday, so I made him an interactive card inspired by a class from Therese Calvid at the Card Maker Success Summit. Therese used a Spellbinders car, but I used what I had: a Couture Creations Holden Commodore Ute.

I die-cut and assembled the car, then ink-blended a sunny background using a circle mask (and the negative mask for the glow), finishing with a few clouds and birds. The fun part is the folding mechanism—when the card slides out of the envelope, the car pops up from the base.

It arrived right on his birthday (thanks, NZ and Aussie Post!), and my daughter said Andrew was delighted—especially that I’d actually written a message inside. It’s a running family joke after the year I sent him a completely blank card.

SENZ - Creative Craft Expo 2022 Day 2

Hi there.. Today was day 2 of SENZ - and after taking a class yesterday... I decided to do another one today - luckily there were still places available for Chick's Interactive Underseas class.  And I found that I could get a concession entry as a Pensioner! Saved me $3 on the entry.   So after doing the grocery shopping off I headed to the fair again.    More shopping as I needed to buy the Distress Oxide colours I needed for the class.. plus I did a little make'n'take - which used Nuvo Glimmer paste - which just jumped into my shopping bag!  

The class was really cool - even if I made a few mistakes... we did three interactive cards 

First up - A shaker card 

We did the ink blending first and then die cut out the centre.... so mistake one was that I did my die cutting with the darker portion at the top... it should have been at the bottom... so had to put all my bits and pieces on the other side to everyone else!  The dies are from Memory Box.  The little fish on top and three layers - two white and one in holographic card.  

Second technique - Hidden sentiment.

Again, when I added my little fishes, I put the darker portion to the top instead of the bottom.   As you can see, there is a little pull tab to the side that shows the hidden sentiment. 

And the third technique - is a wobble card. 

On this one, the jellyfish moves from side to side - done with a little die cut circle with a little disc that allows the jellyfish to move around.  Once I was home I added the clear gems to this one and some clear Nuvo drops to the other two.  

Such a fun class and I had a ball.  

My weekend fun

My weekend started a day early on Friday when I took a day's leave to spend some time at SENZ (NZ's biggest craft fair of the year)  I picked up my friend, Suna and we got to the venue at around 9.15am - it opened to pre-purchased ticket holders at 9.30.   We had a ball walking around checking out the stalls and catching up with some friends.  We even got to see the one and only Dyan Reaveley doing a mini demo at the Warehouse Stationery stall.

I spent up large... on some necessities like storage pockets and glues and then some fun stamps, dies and stencils.

I did a make and take at Uniquely Creative - the sweet little elephant water colouring - love the stamping so much I got the stamps and dies - as a kit including some patterned paper and flowers.  I even found time when I got home Friday evening to make a sweet little card for my son to give his partner, from their daughter, her birthday.

 

Saturday I went again to the fair.... as I was booked into a class in the afternoon.  Interactive cards with Paula from Craftables.  It was a full on 2 hours - got 3 kits to make interactive cards...we managed to get two made, and one to bring home to finish.

 This one has a magnetic closure which allows the centre panel to open and has a gift card envelope inside. 

The second one is a hidden pull sentiment.   Lots of fussy cutting of the flowers and leaves on both cards.    The one I still have to do is a telescopic card.  Luckily Paula has written detailed instructions.
