I've broken my Cuttlebug!!!!

I can tell you there was much gnashing of teeth, many swear words ( some not even repeatable in mixed company) when I realised that I'd broken my Cuttlebug. I've had it for 6 months now and love it to pieces. I had cut out a nestibility label and decided I wanted to emboss it. Well of course I thought I knew what to do.... A plate, B plate, nestie, tan mat and C plate. Bit of a tight squeeze but I'd get it through..... about half way it stopped.... so a good turn on the handle and it went through ok....with an almighty bang..... Oops.... I thought - there goes the B plate.. ( its inclined to curve a bit)... but no all well there. But the next time I went to use the CB - nothing happended.... no pressure on the plates.... So quick call to my LSS (local stamping store) - no more in stock but if I bring it in Judi will take it back to the manufacturor and they'll see if it can be fixed..... Whew!!! I really don't want to buy another one... but might have to. So took it in this afternoon and will have to wait and see...... I'm supposed to take it to a Techniques class on Saturday, but will have to share someone elses. Luckily I had a piece of paint chip cut into a scalloped square already.... not actually a colour I was going to use on a card for Mother's Day... but managed to find some co-ordinating colours. This card was inspired by one I saw in a video by Kristina Warner in her MACM series from May last year.
I used my grid stamp by Rubadubadoo with gold ink along the top of a 10.5Cm X 10.5cm base card ( Curlew Cream by Kaskad) The yellow spotted paper was in my scrap folder so can't remember where it came from and same with the ribbon. Flowers by Hero Arts - black gem in centre.
I stamped the MUM letters onto white card. These are from the Basic Font by Fiskars ( got them yesterday 1/2 price from a stationary shop) and then cut them out and stuck them on. Love you is from the HA CL129 Anytime Messages. This is an entry into the HA Blog challenge this week.
I will try and get some more done... I want to sell some mothers day cards at work so need a variety to take in. I seem to spend so much time blog hopping and viewing videos ( and I wonder why I reach my 10G limit each month) that I don't get much actual creating time!!!!
Anyway I'm doing this as my dinner is simmering away, so thanks for visiting and have a great day.

Hi, Dawn! Ooooooh noooooooooooo! A horrible tragedy! I hope they can fix it for free, or at least for a much lower cost than buying a new one! Thanks for the tip on where to find the free papers, too! :-)

So sorry to hear this Dawn. I can't locate my instructions (haven't used it that much) and worry about breaking my plates...or now, worse! Ditto what Paula said...let me know if I can "bug" some for you and send them via...not sure what would be the best way to post.

Have a note for you and I apologize if this is a dup...started to send them late last night and lost track...ugh!

Thanks for your kind comment on my fantasy card. Since you stopped by, I wanted to let you know that I'm offering some blog candy (first time ever) at this post...http://joshuajiraffe.blogspot.com/2009/04/never-done-before-blog-candy-offering.html

I would be happy to add your name to the list if you see anything you might like.

Enjoy the day!

Dawn,

Were you able to have your cuttlebug fixed? Sounds like the same thing just happened to me, and I would hate to have to spend the money on a new one!

Thanks

I had my cuttlebug for a month before it broke. The people I purchased it from in Scotland refused to help me out with a new one or getting it repaired so I bought a Big Shot. I still have the broken cuttlebug as I cannot bring myself to bin it! The cast metal surrounding the handle on the inside had sheared. My husband tried to weld it together with special glue but it did not last. I have heard that this is a fault found by several people.

Same thing with me, my bug's side blew out!... although it was my fault I think. I bought a spellbinders impressabilities template at my LSS, and tried some shims to get more pressure. It was too much for my poor little bug! :( So I broke down and bought a big shot at ritzcamera.com. Only $70 INCLUDING shipping!! I'm so excited! :)

Hi Dawn,
I had to laugh reading what happened to your cuttlebug and the comments such as my bugs side blew out. Hilarious! As I did this two days ago. I thought oh shoot I broke my B plate. But the side blew out and I only now have partial embossing. I already had a back up machine. Pretty sick, so I unpacked it. Poor little bug. Were you able to get yours repaired?
Warm regards,
Dawn

Oh my goodness. I just broke my cuttlebug the same way trying to emboss with a nestabilities. Arg!!!! I've only had for a short time and I really really was starting to get the hang of it. I was beating myself up for doing the same thing as everyone else and now I don't feel so bad. I will phone provocraft on monday but I don't hold out much hope. Thanks everyone for making me feel better. If Provocraft can't help me, I'm not sure what I will do. But thank you.

To the folks with broken cuttle bugs... Mine did exactly the same after 9 months and quite a lot of use. I took it back to the distributer and it was repaired free and ready for me to pick up about 3 or 4 weeks later. Felt lost without it but it was worth the wait. I'm from New Zealand and our consumer laws say (in short) that customers with products which breakdown within a year of purchase must be offered repairs or refund. Good luck with getting yours fixed.

Hmmm I just broke my Cuttlebug. I was following instructions on my Nestabilities to emboss a cut and all of a sudden while turning the handle there was this loud pop and the side of my cuttlebug blew off. I thought I could just snap the side back on and it would work, but much to my dismay it doesn't work. I'm really upset as you can't get the same one any more because there is a new model out and it is more expensive. Wonder if there was a defect in the old one.

Interesting reading all these as my Bug did the same thing! Thought it was just me. Very annoying as a new one is well over A$100. Maybe I will try the Big Shot instead, because I must have a replacement!
