Use Washi...

hi there.... I can't believe I haven't posted for almost 10 days!   I have done a little crafting but mostly for swaps and design work... plus spending as much time as I could with my Dad.   Ngaire was in Auckland Hospital till Thurs 10th before being flown back to the Hutt Hospital in Wellington.   Dad then drove himself back - over two days. (365 kilometres/394 miles)  not bad for a 85 year old.    Ngaire got home late Friday night, but ended up back in hospital last evening with a blood clot.... Poor thing - still she is near her family so that is good.

So today I am sharing the card I made for our NZ swap group.  Our theme was Use Washi... My good friend Suna chose the theme and I got to send her my card.   I took the easy route, using some Altenew floral washi - It is so pretty and a stripe of it covered the centre of my card.

Isn't just the most beautiful washi.   I used a stripe of thin gold washi down the side and then laid stripes of it across some card and die cut the sentiment out.    Chose a maroon card base to match one of the flower colours.   Suna let me know it had arrived and she loved it.

We've had a lovely weekend, spent with our friends in Mangawhai.   We hadn't been up there for more than a month so it was lovely to chill out.  And on our way home we popped into see our son - it's his 34th birthday today.  I really don't know where the time has gone.  Here's a photo of him and his family taken a couple of weeks ago on their holiday in Australia

thanks for visiting today.   I have a few posts schedule this week - including Kieran's birthday card.

Washi Two Ways

Altenew are currently having a Get Wild about Washi contest as part of a release of new Washi tapes.

I have a few of the Altenew Washi tapes.... and chose to use Peach Gold Wide Washi to make two cards today.. together with new stash that arrived yesterday.... Craft Your Life Project Kit - Hello Beautiful

First up I used the washi as a background

I covered some cream card with the Washi to make the background.  I stamped the Flowers from the Kit stamp set and then used the colouring stencils to add the colour.  I wanted to use muted colours to match the soft colours of the Washi.  I gold embossed the birthday sentiment (from Altenew's Birthday Builder set) onto some brown card and added to the background.  Die cut the floral element and added with 3D tape.

Entering this into The Flower Challenge... #62  "Add leaves"

And for my second card  I did some embossing with the 3D embossing folder from the kit.

I had a little panel of the Washi on the cream card, left over from the first card.  I took some of dark brown card and ran it through the folder.  I trimmed it down and then laid the washi panel on embossed panel before running it back through my Cuttlebug.   Before gluing it down, I added some Altenew Enchanted Gold pigment ink blended over the raised embossing on the background and did a little sanding of the top layer.   A few pearls and a die cut sentiment finished it off.

If you visit the Altenew blog there are lots of inspiration for using washi.

WWC326 Helen's Challenge: All About Occasions

Hi, time for our challenge at Watercooler Wednesday.  Helen's our hostess with an All About Occasions Challenge.

My card today was for a friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago.

This was a fun to make.  I used some Altenew Washi Tape to make my floral base.  I made my base a 6.25 x 3.25 base in some dark brown.  I added the washi to a white panel.  I used an Altenew Circled Greetings - Hello die to make my die cut.  I just cut the cirlce away.  I die  cut one in maroon and 2 in white and layered together.  The sentiment is from Altenew's Label Love.  I stamped it onto some white card with Obsidan ink.

Come and join in the fun at  Watercooler Wednesday Challenge and check out the projects from the other designers.  Then take our challenge and link up your project to the challenge post.    We'd love to have you join us.  You have until Monday 18th October  at 5 pm Mountain Standard Time (Tuesday 19th at 12.00 noon NZ time ) to link up your project.
