A Pair of Mixed Media Cards for Dad

Yesterday I spent some time making cards for my dad, with two special dates coming up very close together. Father’s Day is on 6 September, and his birthday follows just a few days later on 10 September. Because I need to post both cards—and NZ Post can be a little slow these days—I’m trying to be organised and get them sent early.

I decided to go with a mixed media theme for both cards, beginning with the Father’s Day design.

I started with a piece of ombré patterned paper from Uniti in shades of blue and purple, then cut it using Gina K Master Layout 1.

To build up the background, I used the Circle Disruption stencil from AALL & Create and added areas of blue and purple ink with my blending brushes. I also brought in Memento Toffee Crunch, along with Altenew Cloudy Night and Cloudy White inks, to add extra depth and contrast.

For the embellishments, I die-cut several black cogs using Paper Rose Studio cog dies. I randomly dabbed them with embossing ink, then heat embossed them with WOW Metallic Copper Sparkle powder for a worn, metallic effect. A few dots from a gold Posca pen added the final touches of shine.

I finished the card with a pre-printed sentiment from a Uniquely Creative digital kit, then matted the panel onto black card before attaching it to a white card base.

I carried the mixed media look through to Dad’s birthday card as well, this time creating a bold blue-and-gold panel. I ink-smooshed the background using Catherine Pooler Juniper Mist and Distress Oxide Chipped Sapphire, which gave the piece a rich, layered feel.

Next, I used a Craft Giraffe splatter stencil with Versamark ink, then added Ranger Gold embossing powder for texture and shimmer. Once the panel was ready, I punched out a pile of 1-inch squares and arranged them diagonally across a die-cut panel.

To complete the card, I backed the panel with dark blue card, attached it to a white base, and added a sentiment cut from gold mirror card.

Both cards have the same mixed media feel, but each one has its own personality. Now I just need to get them safely into the post and hope they arrive in plenty of time!

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

I haven't posted for a week... but have made a couple of cards that I'll share soon.   I have been unwell since Thursday - with little to no energy to craft.

However, I do have my Father's Day card for my Dad to share.

This is a Hybrid card.... made with Uniquely Creative digital Father's Day images (from 2024 and 2025) Used my Scan'n'Cut to cut some of the images and fussy the some as well.  Die cut the background paper using a Gina K Master Layout 7 to cut the mini slimline card.  photo

Dad loved the card.  I had a good chat with him today.  I ring him every Sunday to catch up.    He did let me know that both this card and his birthday card (birthday on the 10th) arrived safely.

Here's a photo of my Dad and I, taken last Christmas.

Happy Father's Day to my Dad

Today is Father's Day here in NZ.  I rang my Dad (for our usual Sunday chat) and he confirmed his Father's Day card had arrived.

The can and sentiment stamps are by Montago - a NZ based company.  For this one, I've cased their gallery sample - just slightly different colours.   This one was coloured with my Spectrum Noir Tri-blends.  I have the extended colours which are a bit more muted, but looked good on this one.

My son and his eldest daughter (4 yr old) came around for lunch today... DIL and little one stayed home as she was trying to get the little one to sleep in her cot during the day.  Lovely to see them anyway.

I'm now got three of Snowy's made into cards.   I've had lots of fun doing these.

Cards for my Dad.

Hi there.  Father's Day here in NZ is this Sunday and then on the 10th it is his birthday.  So I made him two cards and posted them off together.

First for Father's Day

I decided to use up some patterned papers and did some different layers.  I like the way the foiled papers go so well together.

And the birthday card -

This is a flashback for Dad.  As a teen he had a motorbike.  The bike stamp is a freebie that came with a magazine - I CASE'd a card from it as well.   It's my go to stamp set for masculine cards.

I got these in the post yesterday so he'll get them in time.

WWC 324 Kath's Challenge: All About Occasions

Hi there.  It's time for another challenge at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge. Our hostess is Kath with an All About Occasions Challenge.

Last Sunday was Father's Day here in New Zealand and this is the card I send to my Dad.

I was struggling for ideas for Dad's card.  I  did some Pinterest searching and was inspired by several different cards to come up with the final result.  I took some heavy weight kraft paper and ran it through my machine with an Altnew 3D folder (Organic Linen)  I then took another piece and using a Striped folder inked up with Catherine Pooler Juniper Mist inks to give a letterpress look.  My focal image is a little stamp from Couture Creations called Whiskey.  I coloured it with some Prismacolour pencils and die cut it with a circle die from Simon Says Stamp.   I used a Kaisercraft stamp (Occasions) to white emboss the sentiment.  I die cut with a flag banner die from Gina K.    Three small black gems finished off the card.

Come and join in the fun at  Watercooler Wednesday Challenge and check out the project from the other designers.  Then take our challenge and link up your project to the challenge post.    We'd love to have you join us.  You have until Monday 20th Sept at 5 pm Mountain Standard Time (Tuesday at 11.00am  NZ time ) to link up your project.

WWC 286 - Marsha's Challenge - All About Occasions

Welcome to my blog today.  It's time for the weekly challenge at Watercooler Wednesday and this week Marsha is our hostess with an All About Occasions challenge.

Today I am sharing the card I've made for my Dad for Father's Day.  It's not till the 6th of September.

I used a new to me stencil from Altenew called Feathered Leaves.  I use some Distress Oxides - Mowed Lawn, Evergreen Bough, and Broken China - to blend through the stencil and then I used some of the same inks to blend over the whole piece.   I used a sentiment from Clearly Besotted's All Occasion Sentiments.  The feathers are from Catherine Pooler's Birds of a Feather stamped with Fiesta Blue, Eucalyptus and Grass Skirt CP inks.  I blended some of the DO over the whole lot before fussy cutting them out.
