Another Poinsettia on a spray and splatter card

I'm just loving my new Hero Arts Antique Poinsettia.  I decided to make another card for Virginia's View challenge.

I started with a piece of watercolour paper and stamped the poinsettia.  I used Zig Markers to watercolour.  I die cut it and added it to the card base.  I then took the Hero Arts Peace stamp and die set, stamping the peace with red ink and then with MISTI's help, I then stamped some versamark over the top and clear embossed.  Once it was heat set, I added the two little sentiments from the set.   I cut a mask for the flower and then using my Tim Holtz Spritzer I sprayed around the flower with some Green Zig marker and then a Distress marker for the red spray.

Scramble and splatters....

It's been a busy week for me.  Starting with a cough and sore rib over the weekend that led to a visit to the doctor on Monday, a chest xray and blood test ending with a visit to the North Shore Hospital on Monday night with IV antibiotics for Pneumonia.  Overnight stay led to a wait the next day for a CT scan to check for clots (I've had a pulmonary embolism in the past) and finally at 6pm Tuesday the all clear and got to go home.

We had overseas visitors arrive later that night.   It was my daughter's in-laws.  A lovely couple who stayed with us till Saturday afternoon.  Very early Saturday morning we picked up our daughter, her hubby and baby Archer for a 5 day visit.   So you can see it's been full on.

This morning, baby was sleeping,Mummy and Daddy having a sleep in and hubby out for a walk, so snuck into craft room to join in Kim's Scramble over on the HA Flickr group.  She set a real challenge - a card with matching tag and decorated envelope.  All in 90 mins.

I had DC182 sitting on my desk and a bright blue card base.  I took some Bristol paper and stamped the butterflies.  I used Zig Markers in bright blue and green to colour the butterflies.  I used the matching die to cut three of the butterflies.  The die doesn't cut all the way through, so you can lift the wings.  Added a sentiment from the set as well.   The tag was cut from some Bristol with a CAS-ual Friday die.  I used the smaller of the two butterflies and did a similar design, which I replicated on the blue envelope.  Entering this into the All Kinds of Everything at Moving With the Times Challenge

And yes at 10.30am Nana is still in her PJ's!  We'd had a nice sleep in and breakfast and I hadn't got dressed before scrambling!

We had a lovely lunch with our son coming over with some of his friends to meet the little dude. The weather held off  and we got to eat outside.  Hubby barbecued sausages and chicken wings.

Later this afternoon, I was catching up on some blogs and I saw that Virginia's new challenge was underway over on Virginia's View.  It's "Spray, Mist and Splatter". I was very inspired by Virginia's samples... so CASE'd it.

 

I started by using some Lindy's Gang Spray in Green and pink onto some creamy card before stamping the flower from Altenew Beautiful Day and the leaves from the set.  I used some purple and green inks to stamp.  I like the design Virginia used so did something similar with some washi tape.  The background has drops of the pink spray and mist of white Decor spray(which is very  and splatters made with watered down Hickory Smoke distress ink.  The sentiment is from the Beautiful day set as well.

Full of smiles this morning.  He has a second tooth cutting through but you wouldn't know it.  He is such a good boy

Looking forward to another day off with them tomorrow then back to work for a couple of days and then spending Thursday with them before they fly out to LA on Thursday night for their holiday.

I've got Butterflies on the Brain!

or so it would seem... for days now I've been dreaming up a butterfly shaker card so I could enter into the challenge at Virginia's View.  Took some time this morning to get it done...

It turned out just as I had hoped and dreamed it would.... I used a pile of chunky glitter that came as a freebie with a magazine.  My die cut butterflies are from Memory Box... the Tristan and Chloe butterflies.. one a solid die and the other the filigree one that matches.  I used some fun foam for my dimensional layer.  Inlaid the filigree die over the acetate layer.

Make your own background

That's the latest Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge.  Well my order from SSS arrived in the courier yesterday morning so I had a play last night.  In my order were: Tim Holtz stencils, a Prima Doll, a watercolour tag pad, a Hero Arts stamp set amongst a few other bits and pieces.  I decided to use these items to make a tag with my own background.

I started with the Prima watercolour paper tag and I sponged it with Peeled Paint distress ink.  While the ink was still a bit damp I used some Ranger Texture paste through the Holly Bough stencil.  The paste soaked up the ink colour, but once it dried I enhanced it with Pine Needles ink and some Festive Berries ink.  I distressed the edges with some of the red and green inks mixed together.   I stamped the Prima doll stamp onto white card and some PP by Kaisercraft so I could paper piece the dress.  Sundresses are the order of the day here in NZ for Christmas Day as it is mid summer.  I then used the sentiment from the Hero Arts set trimmed up and distressed with black ink.

As I used some Patterned Paper I am entering this into the challenge at Virginia's View.
And as I used texture paste and made a tag, I am entering this into the Textured Tag at Beyond Grey Challenge

New challenges at Creative Craft Cottage and CCC Digi Creations

Both of our Creative Craft Cottage challenges are up today.

I used this  butterfly and the sentiment is from this set. 

Printed the butterfly and the sentiment onto watercolour paper and then used paints to colour.  Added a line of washi tape along the bottom. 

And over at Creative Craft Cottage we have a sketch/colour board.  

 

For this one I used different Patterned Papers for my layers.  The focal point is cut from some watercolour paper.  I masked the edges and stamped a WPlus9 rose and coloured with Copics.  I then used some water colour paint to do a wash of green.  Added some pink and green sequins and finished with a Hero Arts stamp.

I'm entering this into the Patterned Paper challenge at Virginia's View this month and this weeks challenge at Simon Says Stamp ~ Anything goes.

I wanted to try something different for the latest challenge at Virginia's View... her challenge is to make a shaped card.  I decided that I wanted a Teapot card, so did some internet searching and found a template.

I printed the teapot twice, once flipped so that they matched. I then fussy cut and stuck the two together.  I coloured the flowers with Copics and then watercoloured the rest of teapot.  The card bobbled with the water but loved the texture it gave the teapot.  I stamped, coloured and fussy cut the little Penny Black girl.  The sentiment is from the same set.

Virginia's View - a new challenge site.

I was very happy to see my blogger friend, Virginia Lu, has started a new challenge blog called Virginia's View... and what a way to start... She chose an awesome theme for her first challenge... "Watercolour" Virginia was hoping for around 20 enteries.... but she is a very popular contributor to the crafting blogging world and we've gotten behind her....to date 308 entries.

Of course I had to try my hand at the challenge.  I do a lot of watercolouring with my distress inks.  So to get me back into the swing of card making I did a few cards using this technique.

First up a very delicate looking water coloured card.

I started by stamping a free stamp onto a textured card base in London Fog Memento ink after masking around the edges.  I then used Distress markers to water-colour the flowers and leaves.  I outlined the panel with a grey marker.  The sentiment which came with the main stamp, was stamped in the grey ink and a few gems added.

My second card is a bit more colourful



This was inspired by Jennifer McGuire's masked frame technique from CAS one-layer card class.  I made a mask for the frame and used some Hero Arts flowers to make the frame.  Once I had stamped the flowers I used distress inks and a water brush to colour them.  This one has also been entered into the Hero Arts Birthday challenge.

And finally I did a card as part of my NZ Crafters monthly technique swap.  Our theme this month is "found" items.  You have to use something from around the house to do your stamping.  Can you guess what I used?



If you guess the end of a bunch of celery you guessed correct!  I had a half bunch of celery so stamped it twice for each rose on my background.  I liberally spritzed a piece of Tim Holtz water colour paper with water and then used Picked Raspberry distress ink to stamp the celery end.  I flicked some pink, green and black ink onto the background.  The roses (a free stamp from Visible Images that came with Stamp Crafter Magazine) were stamped and coloured with the distress ink mixed with some gold Spritz.  Once they were cut and mounted onto the card an added bit of Wink of Stella glitter pen was added.  Finished with the Hero Arts sentiment and some pink and green pearls and gems.   This will be on it's way to it's recipient shortly.

So you can see I've not wasted any time getting back into my card making.  I was too busy to miss it much but very happy to be getting inky again.
