Christmas In July

Its the last day for our Christmas in July challenge at Die Cut Divas.   Our fabulous sponsor is the Frantic Stamper Inc

They have an amazing array of stamps, dies and embossing folders.

So here is my card to share today

No stamping in this one at all.  Just two embossing folders and a die cut.   Great for those quick and easy card you often need when it comes round to Christmas time.

A big thanks to the Frantic Stamper for sponsoring us this month.

Dreaming of Spring Flowers

Overnight Saturday we had the coldest night and this morning was the coldest in the last 2 years..... so although there was sun today, it was COLD.... got to around 11degrees C. (around 50F) - so I had a play with some Simon Says Stamp Spring Flowers

I stamped the flowers onto the smooth side of some Cason XL watercolour paper.   I used Zig watercolour markers to colour both the flowers and the background.  I've entered this into the Simon Says Stamp Flickr group Anything Goes Challenge and the SSS Wednesday Challenge - Anything goes
And the "S" Challenge at City Crafters Challenge - S for spring flowers.

Spring is just around the corner now.... our daffodils have came out.

They got a bit beaten up with the wind last weekend.  The snowdrops are out as well.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend... It's almost bedtime for me... just a few more blogs to catch up on first

It's challenge time at StampNation and this week we have a colour challenge.

Here's a sneak peek at what I've created

Join us at StampNation to see my full card and those of my team mates.   Not a member? - It's easy to join and well worth the price.

Flower Power at Southern Girls

It's my team's turn to share over at Southern Girls challenge.  Our theme is "Flower Power" and our lovely sponsor is none other than Krafters Cart

I have had a pleasure of meeting Meetu, the owner, when I visited SENZ - the craft fair.  She had a stall at the fair and I have to say I spent up large.  I also visit Kraters Cart regularly and am happy to say Meetu is speedy at getting your products to you.

We were lucky enough to receive some dies and stamps as part of the sponsorship.  So I used one of the dies to make my card today.

I used the For You With Love die set.  I cut it twice, once from glittery pink card and once from black.  I layer the two slightly off setting the black.  I used some gold foiled PP for my die cut oval and added the die cut couple.  I used Platinum embossing powder to emboss the sentiment.  I added some Prima roses for my flower power element.

Do hop over to Southern Girls Challenge blog and join us with your flower power projects

Dramatic Black and Gold -

My friend Kim (in Perth Australia) is hosting the latest 90 min scramble at Hero Arts Flickr Group.  I love how it's a 24hr edition, so you can take the 90 mins when it suits you.   Kim's challenge started at 9.00pm Sat night for me - so this morning I took two lots of 90 mins to make some cards
Kim's challenge was Dramatic Black and Gold...

My first card took 40 mins - including an epic fail at trying to use some Foil and Flocking embossing powder and foil - think my powder is too old...  look at this mess!

So I turned my card stock over and tried again... this time with Ranger's Platinum Embossing powder...

I added some splatters with a Close to my Heart gold sparkle pen.

And while hubby was washing both cars, I took about an hour to do another one

I got to foil on this one.  I added some double sided tape along the bottom and side of my card and added the gold foil.   I gold embossed the Hero Arts Poppies onto the black card and then used some bleach to paint the flowers.  My idea was to bleach then use some gold paint to colour the poppies, but when I dried the bleach the colour was quite golden looking so I just left it as it was.

Nice to have fun playing for fun's sake.  I've been so busy of late working on design team cards to get myself ahead, it really is nice to just play!

enjoy your weekend.  We are off to our son's place later to have dinner with them.  It was his girlfriend's birthday yesterday so will be good to catch up,

Flutterbies Card in a Box - Hero Art

Hi all.  It's Anything Goes this month at our challenge at A2Z Scrapbooking.  So I'm here to show you a card in a box I made using the Digital kit called Flutterbies Printable PT006.  A2Z are the sole supplier of Hero Arts Digital kits and stamps.  I really like the way I can choose the size I print my images at.

I started by sizing my digital stamp in a Word document and then copying the size so I had 6 images.  I used some Canson XL water colour paper and printed out my sheet.  I then used some watercolour paint to make lots of colourful butterflies.   I also printed one at slightly butterfly as well and water coloured.   I fussy cut all the butterflies and made my card in a box.   I used some patterned paper by Craftworks which looks like watercolour.  I added a little bit of trellis die on my back panel and added the larger butterfly.   For my front sentiment I used another Hero Art Digital kit - Say it in Pieces.  I took two of the sentiments - made a circle in Word and coloured it green and added the sentiments.  Added a teeny punched butterfly.  My green leaves are a Hero Arts Fancy Die Spring Fling (Discontinued)

Please join us in this months "Anything Goes" challenge for your chance at a $25 gift card to the a2z store.

A happy accident....

I recently got Altenew's Cube Builder stencil.  It is quite ingenious... you stencil one way then turn the stencil over and use a slightly different shade to make it look like a cube.   I decided to use the stencil with two Altenew ink colours - Rose Quartz and Puffy Heart and used a Nuvo Brush to colour.  I did the lighter colour first and then turned the stencil over and used the darker one next.  It made a lovely background.  As there was still ink on my stencil I decided to spritz some water onto the stencil and laid it onto some card.    I wanted to make sure I got a good impression and rubbed my finger over the stencil.... and as I hadn't cleaned the stencil.... the colour went onto the card... once I removed the stencil- my happy accident!

I trimmed the stenciled piece and here's what I came up with

I stamped the Painted Flowers in Puffy Heart and Purple Wine for the flowers and Volcano Lake for the leaves.  The sentiment from Fresh Freesia set is stamped in Purple Wine ink.  A few little enamel dots to finish off.

I started this Friday afternoon before heading up to Mangawhai for a weekend away and finished it off tonight when we got home.

I've added this to the July challenge at Altenew

Thanks for stopping by.

Poinsettia Peace for Christmas in July

It's my day at Die Cut Divas ... and I have a Christmas Poinsettia card to share.

Our wonderful sponsor has TONS of stamps, dies and embossing folders and I used 2 stamp and die sets from Hero Arts that are available at the site.

I stamped the Poinsettia (Hero Arts Antique Poinsettia ) onto some kraft card and coloured with my Prismacolor Pencils.   I trimmed it and layered onto the red card base.  I die cut 2 Peace sentiments.... from the Hero Arts Peace stamp and cut and layer then over each other, slightly off set and then finished off with the rest of the sentiment in the corner.

We would love to see your Christmas cards so come join us (HERE)  Don't forget to use your Die Cutting Machine to die cut or emboss on your project.

I am entering this into the Floral challenge at A Blog Named Hero

Black and White challenge

I've been holed up in my craft room this afternoon... horrible wet and cold weather outside so the best place to be.  I've been catching up with some design work and checking out some challenges.  I saw the one over at City Crafter Challenge blog is Black and White.  I needed a get well card and knew what I wanted to do.

I used the umbrella girl from Stampin' Up - Beautiful You set.  I added a stripe of black and white dotty paper and a bead of silver glitter glue down one side and onto the umbrella.

Just getting dinner started shortly and then it's a BIG rugby game... The All Blacks versus the British and Irish Lions.  It's the third game in the series.... one a piece at the moment...so it's tense!  Go the All Blacks.

Hero Arts Glitter and Butterfly

It's my day over at A2Z Scrapbooking and I have a butterfly card to share.  Our challenge this month is Anything Goes.... always a great way to highlight your Hero Arts stamps, dies, stencils, inks etc.

I love this big Hero Arts Butterfly Fancy die and I made it my focal point.  I used Distress Inks in Broken China and Worn Lipstick to colour some watercolour paper and then diecut the butterfly.

The background was a piece of paper I had on hand - made with Gelatos and some water spritzing.  I decided that the panel needed a bit of a lift, so I took the Asian Flower Stencil and some Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Kiss and added some to the corner.  The Glitter Kiss is really pretty and I loved the way it caught on the edge of the flowers.

I finished by adding a sentiment from the Colour Layering Poppy stamp set.

Do come and join us at A2Z Scrapbooking for our challenge this month.

Hello Lovely Copic colouring

Using some of my new products I made a card that I am extremely proud of.   I purchased a Concord & 9th stamp set I've been coveting for awhile.... It's called Hello Lovely and is an amazing large bouquet.   And I had bought three new Copic markers - in shades of Violet/Purple..   So the combination of the two -

I am still learning about shading and colouring and today it all came together on my purple flower.    I was thrilled how it turned out.  I stamped the sentiment over the top of the bouquet.

I'll be using this set again and again I'm sure as it's so interesting and versatile as I found when I did some Pinterest searching.  Lots of ideas rushing around my head.

I'm feeling a bit off colour tonight, so not a lot has been done.   Just some blog viewing.

Thanks for stopping by.

Friend card for June CCC

It is time for the reveal over at the Card Chain Challenge blog... For June I got to send a card to Linda in Michigan.

I used Catherine Pooler inks and stamps for my Medallion.   It is from the latest Stamp of Approval Naturally Inspired and I stamped in Rockin' Red.  The Kasiercraft sentiment fitted beautifully in the middle.  I fussy cut it and pop dotted it onto the black and white striped card.   Added some sequins to finish.

I also got a beautiful card from Jutta in BC.

It is very pretty.  To see all the beautiful cards in the reveal post...pop over here .

I've signed up for July too... You have till the 6th July to sign up... at the CCC blog

Crafty Haul and an Arty Card

Hi there.... I had the day off on Friday and went and spent 5 hours at SENZ - the big NZ Craft and Scrapbook Expo.... and also spend A LOT OF MONEY!   I had a great day, didn't do any classes, but a few make and takes... and just walked round and round looking and buying

Some necessities - Glue and stamp cleaner, a glitter pen, and Stick It... and then some new dies, stamps and stencil.  Plus some Oxide Inks and Altenew Inks.  I also got a couple of packs of foil.  I was sorely tempted with the Couture Creations Foiling Machine...  it was $50 off but still $129.  I couldn't justify it though.  But it's an interesting concept.  See all about it here

So onto a card.  I decided to try out the Oxide Inks first.

I smooshed the inks onto my craft mat and then onto the card.  I added some sponging as well and then spritzed to get the Oxidation going.  I looked at the background piece and decided that stamping my new Stampendous stamp over the red part.  I used Prismacolor Pencils to colour the birds and the hair.   I thought it needed a little something, something to balance it up so added some sponged blue oxide ink through a little circle stencil and added some more water.    A little Artsy.

I wish I had more time to spend crafting... but I need to work to pay for it!   I went through my card stash today and have around 40 to sell.... will take them to work to see if I can sell them there.

Hope you all are having a great weekend... Happy Canada Day to my Canadian friends and Happy 4th July weekend to my American Friends.

Hero Arts layering Peacock

It is the beginning of the month so time for a new Challenge at A2Z Scarpbooking.  This month I have a card for the 1st.

I made this card as part of the 90 mins scramble over at the Hero Arts Flickr Group last weekend.  I used a stencil for my subtle background and stamped and die cut the Layering Peacock.

Do pop over and visit the team to see what they have come up with.  Awesome inspiration from everyone.

Hi my name is Dawn Turley and I live in Auckland New Zealand, where I’ve lived for the last 28 years. I am married to a very patient man who puts up with my messy craft room (he’s a neat freak and I am not!) We’ve been married for over 39 years and have two wonderful children and last year welcomed a little grandson to our family. Our daughter lives over the far side of Australia in Perth so have only seen our little man a few times. Our son lives closer so we get to see him more often! I’ve been crafting in one form or another for most of my life, but took up card making around 10 years ago and haven’t lost interest or passion for this hobby. I joined StampNation over 2 ½ years ago and just love the inspiration and comradery of the wonderful members. I tend to be a Clean and Simple card maker which is one of the reasons Catherine’s inspiration drew me to the group. I’m looking
forward to sharing my passion and encourage other’s as well.

I am so pleased to have been chosen.  Keep a look out for my upcoming cards.

Thanks for stopping by.
